Any document seeking attestation can only be attested by the governmental authorities of the issuing country, and no other country holds the authority to attest a document originating in a foreign country. So for attesting a Canadian-originated document from the UAE, firstly they will be sent back to the Canada. In Canada, certain types of documents requires notarization prior to the attestation, such as degree certificate. For notarization, a document will bear official stamp and signature from a Notary Public or lawyer. Thereupon, the certificate will be attested by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). The DFAIT will attach a Certificate of Authentication with the document. Afterwards, the document will be sent to the UAE Embassy in Ottawa, for attestation. The UAE Embassy attestation is requisite on all documents that are going to be used in the UAE. The Embassy will adjoin a Certificate of Legalization with the front page of your document. At last, the documents will be sent back to the UAE for Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) attestation.
